Que la rumba esta buena, ay contigo morena...

I fear my hopes of a World Cup victory for the U.S. have come to an end. I mean it was always laughable that they would actulaly win, but I wanted them to atleast get to the second round :-(. It's about 60 minutes into the U.S. v. Ghana and either way the U.S. would need to score about 5 points to advance to the second round. So that's that, guess all my fan energy will have to be focused on Portugal from now on, but what if they get out in the next round? Guess I need a backup.

So today was the last day of finals, I only had one, French. It was pretty good and it feel oh so good to be out of school for the SUMMER! Free days ahead, free free days (except some weeknights when I work). Went to a lake with my friends on Sunday cuz it was mad hot, it was fun, and I barely even got sunburnt (and that's without sunscreen, because I didn't bring any and most Puerto Ricans/Nueyoricans are too proud to wear it even if they need it [yes being my pasty self I do take some pleasure in seeing not-so-white skinned people get burnt]). Hey what is that, have guys always been so concerned with their appearance, and if not, is that a sin, becuase its sort of immitation of females? I swear, these be the kind of questions running through my mind, the logistics of sinning. Definatley a sign i've lost my roots and what originally drew me to really follow this beautiful religion. Something to think about.

So I've realized, as I've been provoked to bouts of shouting for every goal that Brazil gets, that, besides routing for Portugal, I can just route against Brazil. That must sound aweful, and probably really really no one cares about what my views on sports are but oh well, my patch, my rules.

Go U.S! Go Portugal!!

So the World Cup has finally started. Ahh so excited. I've seen some good matches so far but one i was dissapointed about was the Portugal v. Angola. My dad and I watched it togethr and even though Portugal won, they could've done so much better, especially with my boy Ronaldo (whose jersey is in the mail on its way to me as we speak :-) ). One thing that makes me mad about the world cup is that sudenly everyone in America is a huge fan of Brazil. THis whole damn country is Brazil crazy. No one even cares that the U.S. is in the World Cup. People have just jumped on the Brazil bandwagon and I just don't understand. Especially when I know that most of the people don't even follow international footbal so they're just doing it out of hype. Well at least people here are getting interested in soccer.

The World Cup is such an awesome thing, eveyone in the world (yes that even does include America) coming together for football. At school they had a some of the games on afterschool on a big projecter with like food and prizes, and they had a good turnout. What's everyone else feeling with the World Cup?

I went to that Arabic class but I don't want to stay. He offered it to me free and I know it sounds cocky and just completely conceited but I can't sit in a classroom for two hours learning things that I already know. I mean, during the summer of 2004 i spent almost everynight in the masjid with this brother Yassin teaching me, among other things in Islam, how to read Arabic. And this was like madrassa style, on the floor, the little plastic red book, repeat repeat repeat alif, ba, ta.. and then learning how to read Quran. So for me to go to this class which the first 4 weeks is going to be teaching how to read Arabic, and maybe he said some vocab, I'm not feeling it. I was expecting maybe like one week of alphabet and then moving on to grammer and vocab, but you know, it's all good. InshAllah another opportunity to learn Arabic, maybe even in the traditional way.

School is finally wrapping up this year. Tommorow is the last day before finals. It feels weird having all the seniors leaving, knowing that we'll be it next year. It's just hard to believe. If I could have seen myself 4 years ago I would never have believed it. Well that's how it goes.
