Dissent in Islam
DissentIn Alcoholics Anonymous, there is a saying, "take what you like, and leave the rest". Many people seem to think that saying is also a part of Islam. That we are allowed to pick and chose what laws we are allowed to follow, what parts of Islam we should obey, and which we shouldn't. Now, I am not speaking about issues where there are genuine differences in interpretation, or areas that seem unclear. I am talking about passages of the Quran, commands straight from God's moth to our insignificant ears, that He has graced us with His infinite wisdom.
Upon my decided conversion to Islam, while I was reading the Quran, I came upon things that to me seemed shocking, or hard to reconcile with. But I had accepted a truth, an undeniable truth, given to us in an undeniable book. So I resigned myself trusting in God's infinite Judgment and Knowledge. And I am glad for that. It's not to say I have no mind of my own, that I don't study and research and sometimes have to make decisions on some issues. But when something is so clearly said in the Quran, I have no choice but to obey it. That is simply my obligation.
The Islamic communities in the West seem to be teeming with dissent. As "fascist" as that may sound, it is the only word I find to describe a person rejecting their form of government and accepted moral values. Our moral values are those of Islam, our government Shariah. It seems many people have decided that the moral paradigms of the Christian lands have much to teach us about what a civilized and just civilization should be. I simply hope that they will realize that the Supreme Court is that of Allah.
